Fun Halloween Sensory Activity!

Pumpkin Pie Playdough!
My children and I are going to make this tomorrow!
This can be a fun activity to do with your children for Halloween or Thanksgiving!
Make sure and let you children help you mix all the ingredients together!
As your children are playing with it, talk to them! Ask them how it feels and smells. Roll it into letters and sound out the letter together. Cut it with scissors. Roll pieces into different size balls and talk to them about largest to smallest.
The opportunities are endless.....the most important is to have fun!
Ingredients: 5 1/2 cups flour, 2 cups of salt, 8 teaspoons cream of tarter, 3/4 cup oil, 1 container (1 1/12 oz.) pumpkin pie spice, orange food coloring (2 parts yellow, 1 part red), 4 cups water
Procedure: Mix all of the ingredients together. Cook and stir over medium heat until lumps disappear. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth. Store in an airtight container.

This is an activity that can stimulate you child's 5 senses!
It can be fun to follow-up this activity by using our 5 senses felt board story set:

Benefits of Using Felt Story Pieces with Infants

The first steps that children will take towards reading starts at infancy.

The most important thing you can do for your newborn child is to talk to them! Watching your lips move, feeling the vibration of the sounds is an important baseline for literacy.

It is important to encourage babies to point to pictures in books and for the caregiver to slowly say the word that the child is pointing at. It is important to use Felt Story pieces when doing this with babies because it can add an element of sensory to the experience. For example the baby will look at a bird in a book, hold a bird Felt Story piece and hear the word Bird. The child uses three of their senses to help them learn! This can help lay the foundation for literacy!
