Here is some information for all my local readers that might be interested in this fun activity!!
On Saturday, January 24, 2009, UC Irvine Athletics will hold a free health and fitness expo for girls in celebration of the national initiative, Girls and Women in Sports Day. This event will feature instructional clinics in soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, golf, cheer, and track taught by UC Irvine's student-athletes. The day will also include a health expo with vendors from the Orange County community promoting health and wellness.
After the clinics and expo, registrants will be treated to free admission as the UC Irvine women's basketball team takes on Cal State Northridge in the Bren Events Center. The clinics will run from 11:00pm-3:30pm, and the basketball game starts at 4:00pm. Registration for this event is free of charge and open to girls ages 8 through 12.
Since its inception in 1987, National Girls and Women in Sports Day has sought to celebrate the achievements and legacy of women athletes while encouraging participation of girls and women in sports. UC Irvine Athletics continues its dedication to be a positive force within the Orange County community in helping girls and women experience sport and fitness activities. Our goal for this event is to help foster a love for sports in young girls that will last them a lifetime.
Space for this event is limited to the first 200 registrants. Online registration can be completed at the UCI Athletics Camps website, found at www.athletics.uci.edu/ccp. All clinic and expo activities will take place at the Crawford Hall Athletics Complex. For more information, please contact Edie Gobel at 949-824-7587.
