A student at HBHS (high school) had pancakes this week and it almost became fatal.. His Mom (registered nurse) made him pancakes, dropped him off at school and headed to play tennis. She never takes her cellphone on the court but did this time and her son called to say he was having trouble breathing. She told him to go to the nurse immediately and proceeded to call school and alert the nurse.. The nurse called the paramedics and they were there in 3 minutes and worked on the boy all the way to the hospital. He came so close to dying. Evidently this is more common then I ever knew. Check the expiration dates on packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores. Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic! Throw away ALL OUTDATED pancake mix, Bisquick, brownie mixes etc. you have in your home.

Andrew and Ella stayed the night at Grandpa and Grandma's house last night, so when Steve and I got up we were shocked at how quiet our house is with only one child!! Our neighborhood was having a neighborhood wide garage sale going on this morning. We decided to take a walk this morning and see if we could find a new fish tank for all the lizard's Andrew keeps catching in the back yard. Well, no luck on the fish tank. I did however find one of the coolest toys ever....Antique little people!! These were my favorite toys when I was a kid and the only part my Mom had saved was the house, but none of the people! I found all these people to go along with my house for only 5 cents each!!

I read a very interesting article from our adoption attorney with shocking numbers that I wanted to share with you.

"Recent statistics show that single women account for about 40% of the pregnancies in the United States. Fifty years ago, that wound have been a strong indicator that there were a lot of adoptions taking place. But this is a different day. Abortions are common and easy to obtain (not easy to live with afterwards). Less than 1 % of single women relinquish their child for adoption. We need to step up and talk plainly to young women about the life giving choice of adoption."

"International adoptions grew in numbers for over 10 years, peaking in 1004 at 22,000. Since that time, there has been a steady decline in the number of adoptions as various countries have either closed or slowed the pace of adoptions. With the number of families wanting to adopt still high, the challenge is to find a stable, predictable country from which to adopt. We continue to see 2 or 3 families seeking to adopt baby girls for every family who seeks to adopt a boy. The need for families to adopt older children remains high and we continually pray for families to meet this need." -Ron Stoddart

Want to know about Glitterful Felt Stories!

Shelby Barone is the founder and owner of Glitterful Felt Stories. She has an amazing passion for literacy in young children. She was a preschool teacher for over ten years, and has her degree in Early Childhood Education. During her time teaching her passion for literacy began. She was able to see how much young children can benefit from reading and the use of felt stories. She has been creating and donating them to local schools, teachers, churches, libraries and charities since 1995. It was not until the past couple of years that she started to sell her felt stories to help with the cost of her youngest son Tyler's medical expenses, who suffers from a life threatening disease called Neutropenia. . The charities loved how she created her felt pieces using glitter and sparkles to help catch the children's eyes, that they started calling her Glitterful Felt Stories! Glitterful Felt Stories still donates most of their inventory to local charities. Their goal is to get children excited about story at a time!tm

Shelby is currently a work/Stay-at-home mom with three wonderful children who love to read and inspire her everyday to create more exciting new products!! She is currently finishing writing her first series of children's books along with her husband. She is also a major advocate for adoption and is very involved in many local charities that support adoption.

Glitterful Felt Stories has been growing rapidly over the past couple of years! We have recently added a new product line of printed felt stories! Although we love our hand-cut stories, our printed stories are much better for children under the age of 2. The are very sturdy and can handle lot of little hands pulling and tugging. The best part is that they are machine washable!! All our felt stories are made using felt from recycled cans and bottles!! We care about our children and keeping our world clean for their future!

We sell our entire product line on our main website and . We have recently opened our second website to feature only our printed line at!

Andrew's recent design of my favorite set "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly" Felt Board Story inspired me to put this set on sale!!

My Dad was admitted into the hospital yesterday on his 65th birthday for an infection that had gone into his blood stream. They think he might of had a stroke, but they are not sure at this point. He is on antibiotics and facing amputation of his foot.
Tyler had to come see him fully covered so he won't be exposed to any germs while he visited his Grandpa, and this photo was priceless!
Any prayers for my father would be greatly appreciated!!

Today I made this cute image of my family! It was so fun! You can custom make the people to look just like your family members! ~Have Fun

Ok. So this is something I will never ever get used to! I cry every time, because the fact that we have no control over what might happen terrifies me! It has been at least a year since our last earthquake and I was so lucky to be in Boston with the kids visiting my sister at the time. The earthquake felt like a huge truck slammed into the side of our house! I immediately ran upstairs to my crying babies...stepping in glass and not even feeling....the cuts on the bottoms of my feet. Ella said, "I thought there was a giant snake under my bed trying to eat me!" The news has said that we have had two after shocks of 3.0, but we have not felt anything yet!

The kids made these video's for their grandparents before they got a chance to talk to them on the phone. They are really sweet and though you would like to see them!

I made this for dinner tonight for my family. I was shocked at how fast, easy and super extra yummy this was....I had to share it with you to try at home too!!

1 pound ground beef
1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Organic tomato soup
1/2 cup salsa
1/2 cup water
6 flour tortilla (6-inch), cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Cook the beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until it's well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat.

Stir the soup, salsa, water, and tortillas in the skillet and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir the beef mixture. Top with the cheese.

I have one coupon for Babies R Us or Toys R Us. It is good for $10.00 off a baby purchase of $100.00 or more. It is valid 5/8-5/28/09.

Post a comment below if you want it! and it is first come first serve!

Use baby food jars and punch holes in the lid and add various smells to the jars. For example: cloves, mints, petals, sawdust, onions, apples, etc. See if the children can identify these smells.

A fun variation of this activity is to make duplicates of these smells and see if the children can match the smells.

You can also take a "smell walk" and discover the various smells in our environment, such as leaves, flowers, dirt, grass, fruit, water, etc.

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of ?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's..
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.

May you always be overwhelmed by the Grace of God rather than by the cares of life.

Today May 7th is National Day of Prayer!
In honor of this day I wanted to share this wonderful Bible verse:

"I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. Any may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, through it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more that we might ask or think." Ephesians 3:16-20

Depend on the Lord! Let your first step in parenting be prayer! Ask God for His direction when you are dealing with a parenting challenge and daily talk to the Lord about your children before talking to them about the Lord!

My kids love silly putty! You can bounce it, squeeze it, even make copies of comic strips with it, and it hasn't shown any signs of going out of style! Although the original was made with silicone, kids can make their own fun version at home. All you need is two parts multi-purpose white glue and one party liquid starch. Make sure the label says "multi-purpose" because tacky craft glue or white school glue will NOT work. Mix the ingredients and let the mixture still until it is workable. If the mixture is sticky, work in additional starch. Store in a zip-loc bag or airtight container. (Please note that his recipe may not work on humid days!)
