Did Christina Aguilera show disrespect to our Nation?
As my family and I sat watching the opening of the Super Bowl on Sunday the first words I heard from my children was, "Mom she messed up the words."
As she reached the fourth line of the song, which is "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming," the singer instead repeated the second line, "What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming."
In fact, she altered the line a bit the second time around, singing, "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming."
To be honest I felt that she kept attempting to reach such high pitches that many of her words were very hard to make out. I have been reading on many headlines that Americans felt Christina Aguilera was disrespectful by messing up on her song. I honestly don't think that she ever want to make an error on the lyrics of any of her songs - let alone the National Anthem.
I do however feel that it would be so much better to have seen a non-celebrity sing. I think there are so many children suffering in our world today - having a special needs child singing would of been the perfect opportunity to show these children that we as Americans care for them and have high hopes for cures!
Celebrities get so much attention already. As Americans we need to shift our focus from who is in rehab to fighting for cures to heal the many sick children in our world!
