We love TOM's Shoes and we wanted to design a pair of TOMS Shoes using Elmer's Painters Markers. I decided to get a pair of TOM's and decorate them with the Maddie James Foundation logo. Maddie James is a sweet young local girl who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the beginning of this year. You can read the article I wrote about her here.
She just passed away a couple of weeks ago. Her passing has affected every single Mother within our community and we are all working hard to raise money to build a learning center at The Ocean Institute in her honor.
I felt it was appropriate since TOM's is about giving back that I make a pair of shoes to give back to sweet little Maddie James. I painted the foundation logo on these shoes and I am running an online auction to sell the shoes for a donation to her foundation.
If you would like to bid on these shoes, please make your bid here. The Auction will be live until April 10, 2011. The bidding will start at $50 and 100% of the sale price will go to The Maddie James Foundation.
I spent hours hand painting these shoes in honor of Maddie James. You can see the process of how they were created here:
We started with just a plain pair of TOM's natural color shoes.
Then I used an Elmer's X-Acto knife to cut out a stencil of the logo
Then used a pencil to lightly draw the logo on the shoes
Next I used Elmer's Painters Markers to paint the logo
The result was a cute pair of shoes to honor sweet Maddie James
You can see the entire shopping and creative process on my whrrl post:
Thank you to Elmer's for creating such a great product making it so easy to create these special shoes!
