Homemade Watermelon Gelato Recipe #Sfsmarties

Beat the summer heat with a fresh and cool watermelon gelato. This recipe is simple and delicious. I went to one of my favorite stores, Smart and Final to purchase my watermelon. I also used raw sugar and lemons from our backyard tree. I hope that you enjoy this yummy summer recipe.

Ingredients:
  • 5 Cups of watermelon
  • 1 cup raw sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  •  1/2 cup water
First have your children help you squeeze a lemon:

Next slice 5 cups of watermelon:

Then mix the sugar, water and lemon juice in a saucepan. Cook on medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Once the sugar has dissolved cool the mixute in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.

Then you can either mix the watermelon in a blender or have your children mash the watermelon:

Then use a strainer to seperate the pulp and seeds from the juice.

Then add the two mixtures to an ice cream maker and mix for 30-40 minutes. If you do not have access to an ice cream maker I recommend you blend the two mixtures well in a blender. Put the gelato in the freezer and take it out to mix every 5 minutes until firm.

Enjoy!
