OC Mom's and Shel Cosmetics Girl's Night In Event

Last week OC Mom's hosted their first girls night for their writers. OC Mom's really cares about their writers and has a strong focus on team building and relationships. They care about their writers on a personal level that really makes them a joy to work for. Shel Cosmetics was at the event to give all the writers makeovers. Shel Cosmetics is high quality custom make-up that is the #1 choice of many Orange County women. We were super lucky to get one-on-one time with this famous make-up artist.

When we first met we enjoyed a yummy dinner of chicken tacos. We got to laugh and enjoy each other's company before the fun with Shel Cosmetics started.

Michelle, the owner of Shel Cosmetics gave an impressive presentation. She taught us about coloring, make-up application and our skin tones. She transformed the entire OC Mom's team into rockin' super models.

Michelle, the owner of Shel Cosmetics has been a professional make-up artist in Orange County for many years. She has been the most sought after bridal make-up artist since I can remember. Many brides beg to have her on their wedding day. While she was a make-up artist she developed this make-up line to create superior make-up with high quality ingredients. She custom designs all the ingredients to ensure all her make-up is high quality with no added chemicals.

The writers at OC Mom's had such a fun girls night in hosted by Shel Cosmetics.

My Gift To The World

When my older sons teacher asked him to write about what is gift to the world would be, this is what he wrote...

Healthy Eating = Healthy Oral Care #BuildingSmiles

Making good food choices can make an impact on your child's dental health. It is so important to begin good healthy eating patterns at a young age to help keep your children's teeth healthy. To help keep your teeth healthy you will want to avoid foods high in sugar. You will also want to start encouraging your children at a young age to develop healthy brushing habits by brushing and flossing twice a day.

When you first eat food it begins to change inside your mouth. Since we have a lot of bacteria in our mouths, the acid can easily lead to cavities. You mouth relies on your nutrition to stay healthy just like the rest of your body. If your children do not have a proper diet, their teeth may not develop properly.

Here are some tips to help keep your teeth healthy
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day
  • Avoid sugary drinks and juices
  • Lower the amount of snacking
  • Try and maintain a well balanced meal
  • Brush and floss 2x a Day
  • Visit your dentist regularly
Some reasons that can lead to unhealthy teeth:
  • Prolonged bottle use
  • Low fluid intake
  • Gastro reflux
  • Excessive amount of sugar intake
  • Not eating a well balanced diet
  • Not brushing a flossing regularly
Remember when feeding your children foods high in sugar, carbohydrates and starches can greatly increase their risk of plaque buildup on their teeth. If your children develop high amounts of plaque it can then start to break down the enamel on the tooth. Once the enamel breaks down on the tooth a cavity will begin to form.

Remember that your children only get one set of teeth that needs to last their entire lifetime. Eating a healthy well balanced diet and drinking plenty of water can help the longevity of your children's teeth. It can also help your family financially by not accruing high dental bills due to cavities.

To help make brushing your children teeth easier and fun I recommend the Colgate children spin brushes. It helps your children to be able to get better coverage while brushing on their own. They also have fun characters to help get your children excited about brushing. I always let my children brush first, and then I follow-up to ensure they did not miss any spots.

Custom Designer Dog Collar Charms #DogCollarCharms

Meet Jack! He is our wild Yorkie who loves to play. He loves the dog park, however after his wild puppy play date he had a couple of months ago he can no longer go to the traditional dog park. Well... not until he gets fixed. Since we have been working on making his surgery arrangements we have been going to the local park to play with other local dogs. It is not a traditional dog park because everyone leaves their dogs on the leash. It is nice because we have been able to get to know the dogs and owners who bring their dogs to the park. We also get to meet our friends and family who like to bring their dogs and hang out with us.

Our kids have really become attached to some of the dogs we meet and socialize with. We wanted to plan to bring the kids favorite dogs a little present to thank them for being such good friends. We wanted something unique and different. Then we found dogcollarcharms.com

We collected pictures of our dog and our two favorite dogs. Ella loves Annie (a basset hound) so much that she wanted the charm to be a picture that she drew. She worked really hard and drew this beautiful picture of Annie to go on the dog charm. Annie is her favorite dog in the whole world.

We went to the website dogcollarcharms.com and first uploaded the pictures. It was so super easy and only took about 3 minutes to complete the entire shopping process.

Next we got to select a color for the backing of the charm.

Then it was time for a fast and easy check-out

Next I went to their facebook page to see other charms people have created.

Yesterday we were so excited to have the charms arrive in the mail. They are really sweet and the images came in a sepia tone. The picture was a little light however it is still just adorable.

This is Jack's charm. He does not wear a collar. He must be multi-jointed because he can chew his collar off. We have never been able to figure out how he can chew a collar off, but he can. I love him so much that I am going to put his charm on my key ring.

Jack was pretty excited when he saw the charms. He can't wait til we go to the park and give his friends their new collar charms. They are going to be really excited when they see what we made for them.

Recipe: Easy Spaghetti Bolognese Slow Cooker Recipe #firststreetvip

This is such an easy recipe and so much better than pasta sauce from the jar. You can prepare this the night before or in the morning. When you are ready for dinner you just need to prepare a nice salad and boil the noodles.

Ingredients:
  • 6 oz. bacon slices, cut into 1/2" pieces
  • 1 sweet onion
  • 1 1/2 tea. kosher salt
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb. spaghetti
Directions:

First cook the bacon in a skillet and drain the fat.

After you drained the fat all in the chopped onion, salt and garlic. Cook for 5-7 minutes.

Then you will want to chop the bacon slices. Then add the ground beef and cook until it has browned.

Again, drain any fat. Then add the mixture to your slow cooker

Next add the tomato paste, milk and cheese. You will want to cook it on low for 4-6 hours.

I love being a Smart and Final Smartie. I purchased all these ingredients at Smart & Final. The total cost for this dinner was $9. Smart and Final is currently have a facebook promotion where they are giving away a bag a First Street groceries and a $50 gift card each week. Make sure and "like" their facebook page for a chance to win.

Review: Barbie Magazine

I could not pass up the opportunity to review the newest Spring edition of Barbie magazine. I loved Barbie when I was little and Ella has been following in my foot steps. The magazine immediately caught my daughters eye with the cute stickers on the cover.
The magazine has stories, comics, interviews and even a Barbie poster for your daughter to hang on the wall of her bedroom. Our favorite part of this edition is the "throw a fairy party" article. It gives you party ideas, what to wear, special treats to serve and even an invitation. Ella can't wait to invite her friends to her first Barbie party.

This magazine is about empowering young girls. I love when publications come out for young girls that helps to lift their self image and does not show images of young girls wearing inappropriate clothes.

You can subscribe online to this great magazine at www.titanmagazines.com/barbie or call 1-800-999-9718 (8-5pm PST) These are also come online coloring sheets and fun activities on the Titan Magazine website.

We were given a copy of Barbie magazine for review purposes online. My photos, thoughts and opinions are of my own

Review: Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub

I recently had the opportunity to review Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub. It is a coconut lime scent made with natural coconut and lime extracts using only certified organic shea butter. I use a sugar scrub daily for exfoliation. This sugar scrub has a nice fragrance and left my skin feeling nice and soft. I felt like I was in Hawaii after taking my shower.

This product is not tested on animals and made in the US. This product is Paraban Free and DMDM free. Shea has been used for thousands of years as a moisturizer. It has unusually high contents of naturally rich oils, vitamins and minerals. Shea can help with dry skin, evening of skin tones and the appearance of stretch marks because of his high amounts of Vitamin E.

You can purchase Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub on Amazon a 3 pack for $20.31 or you can purchase it at Walmart for $5-6 each.

Running a red light can destroy a family

Keeping our families safe on the road is a very important task that we undertake as parents. We drive carefully, keep our cars in tip-top shape, and make sure everyone is buckled in safely on each and every trip. Unfortunately, we can’t control what other drivers on the road are doing. We must rely on the police and essential safety equipment, such as red light safety cameras, to help keep us safe.

A recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found that 113,000 people were injured and 676 were killed in crashes that involved red-light running in 2009 – two-thirds of the victims were pedestrians, bicyclists and occupants of vehicles hit by the red-light runners.

The study also showed that red-light safety cameras helped save more than 150 lives in 14 of the biggest U.S. cities from 2004 to 2008. Had the cameras been operating in all 99 U.S. cities with populations more than 200,000, more than 800 lives could have been saved.

Each time we enter an intersection, our families are at risk of becoming the victim of an accident – whether on foot or in a vehicle. Red light safety cameras help to change driver behavior and reduce the risk to our loved ones, however many people are unaware just how valuable these cameras are to those on the road.

The National Coalition for Safer Roads has created a powerful video, showing just how tragic the consequences of running a red light can be.

You can find the National Coalition for Safer Roads on their website, Twitter and Facebook pages, for more information about this important initiative.

Join the Coalition in spreading this important message. You may save the life of a loved one or spare a family the heartbreak of losing a life to a tragic intersection accident.

Disney: They're Back

When I opened this email I got from Disney, I have to admit I squealed. I have some of the best childhood memories dressing up as Ms. Piggy and my sister as Kermit the frog. We would reenact all the Muppet movies. The Muppet's were a huge part of my childhood.

I still have all my classic Muppet movies, although my kids have never seen them since we no longer have a VHS player that works. I will be first in line to see this movie when it comes out on November 23rd.

Review: Flip Flop Wines

I have never had a strong love for alcohol. When we cook a nice meal I love a glass of wine that complements the flavor of the food. We also love trying different wines from around the country. Our favorite wines have been from local wineries within the US. Flip Flop wine does come from a local wineary. Flip Flop winary really wants you to get the most out of their wine. All their labels have a description of the flavor, recommendation of room temperature for storage and a food recommendation for each flavor.

When I heard of flip flop wine there was one important thing that really stood out to me. They are involved in giving back with the Soles for Souls program. Right when I heard that they are involved in the product I knew that I would always purchase their product. For every bottle sold, soles for souls will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need.

If you want to try flip flop wine you can purchase it online or find it at your local store. You can get it in a chardonnay, Riesling, Pino Grigio, Moscato, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a Pinot Noir. My favorite wine is the Pino Grigio. It was so light and refreshing.  Since I love a Pinot Grigio, I recently watched this video filmed by the owner David Georges. One thing I love about the owner is that he was an organic vegetable farmer - wish vegetable farming is a hobby of mine too.

After David Georges planted a small vineyard on his farm, he became fascinated with wine. He definitely has a talent for wine making, because this was some of the best wine I have had the pleasure of enjoying.

Flip Flip Pino Grigio is now my preferred wine. I cannot picture purchasing a different brand after trying flip flop wines. It was so light and refreshing, truly a wine perfect for any occassion.

We were provided with a sample for review purposes only. All our photos, thoughts and opinions are of our own.
