Surviving Holiday Shopping with Kids

Shopping with three kids. My teeth start grinding just thinking about it.

Now that the holidays are here, the stores are going to be crowded until the end of the year. There is no way around the long lines and crowds. There is one thing that is guaranteed to happen with I bring my three kiddos out into a crowded store - major meltdowns. That's right! Those meltdowns where I feel like the entire store is staring at me. The kind where I feel like I am the only one it has ever happened too.

I have a solution! Distract the kids - and no - not with pie.

I tested out my theory on a "day before Thanksgiving" Costco run. Crazy - I know!

Before we left for the store, I had the kids all make a list. I gave them clip boards (apparently my kids think that clip boards are the coolest thing ever) pens and paper. I told them what I needed, and they filled up their lists.

Guess what? It worked!

The kids were so distracted running around the store trying to get all the things on their lists, that they did not even notice the crowds or long lines. There was no complaining and no tears. The only tears shed were from me when I got rammed by someone's shopping cart - but that is a whole different Costco shopping dilemma.
